Ulor Kortelan,
Thank you for your recent notes. I am saddened to learn of the perfidy of Ulor Tremalkan of Kajakan Folon. I hope you can resolve the situation. You suggested letting the Verronese be ruled by a Verronese man or a group of them. The Verronese provinces are now ruled by three Uloro, all of them Verronese.
I do not think we should be changing province borders now or amalgamating provinces. I do agree that you should temporarily be Ulor of Kajakan Folon in addition to Kajakan Tros. I hereby decree it. This is temporary. I am considering sending reinforcements to assist your man in Angenmar Paven, but it would take a while for them to arrive and the problem might be over by then. The troops are needed elsewhere. Please advise whether you consider this necessary and if so, how many troops would be needed to assist you in getting Angenmar Paven under control.

As always I will listen to your will. I will act as the Ulor of both provinces but I do still and will continue to say that if the Verronese homeland was again one land instead of the three it is now you will have complete devotion of the Verronese people. The last letter I got from my commander said they were forced to abandon the siege they had on the Ulor's palace because of an attack by the garrison. The good news is they still control part of the city and they will continue their fights. I have sent a letter to the final Verronese province asking for help but I have yet to get a reply. I beseech you to send at least one thousand men who can stand a battle to help my troops. If we had trained forces it would have been over the first day and the old Ulor would have been beheaded and the combined might of the two garrisons would be marching south, but no we had to have green untrained men who run as soon as someone dies. How do you expect to win a war with troops like that?
Ulor Kortelan, Ulor of Kajakan Tros and Kajakan Folon.

Lord Chancellor Rubanya
I have heard the news that Imperial Army soldiers are fighting each other in Angenmar Paven. I have also heard that this is on your orders.
This is outrageous.
I do not understand what purpose this accomplishes. The Verronese are not in rebellion. There has been no mutiny among Imperial Army troops anywhere in the North Peninsula. The only real mutiny was in far away Kopixer and that has now been thoroughly crushed.
There is no reason for this at all. You are still the Lord Chancellor and the Crown Prince. As you probably know by now, Levorek has pretentions about being Imperial Regent because he was voted in as such during a very irregular meeting of the Imperial Council. I am not a lawyer or a magistrate and I do not know if he is or is not legally the regent, but you can be sure that I did not vote for Levorek to be Imperial Regent nor am I obeying any orders from him.
I thought that it was only appropriate to have a regent if the Emperor was unable to act. When I was last in the Imperial Palace, the Emperor was very ill, but he was quite capable of speaking and making decisions. He merely chose to rest instead of attending to matters of state. Perhaps you and Levorek should both stop claiming to be regent. If there is no regent, then Levorek is just a councillor and you are the Lord Chancellor in charge of the government, just as before.
Levorek does have control of the Kantora Solurenesh, but no other forces are actually under his control. I am in control in Zekran and I have no intention of contesting anyone's legal authority. It is not my intention to start a civil war, but to avoid it.
I do want war, but the war I want is one where I lead the Imperial Army against the enemies of the Empire, not one in which I watch the Imperial Army destroy itself in a needless civil war.
Why don't you just stop all this and come back to Zekran and run the government like you did before?

Oron 2, Salgan 1, Adonsik 41 Vylor Cledman VI (if he yet lives)
Krulmuk,
I am in receipt of your undated letter. You should not have the temerity to tell me to stop "claiming to be the regent". I am not "claiming to be the regent". I am the regent. You, at this point, are nothing. You are not the Gurikan Falanorata, you are not the Imperial Army commander. You are not even a member of the Imperial Army. You have been relieved of all those positions by order of the Imperial Regent. Bear in mind I had the authority to do all that as Lord Chancellor as well so you have no grounds to dispute this.
Since you have refused to come here unarmed as I instructed, and you continue to claim command of the Imperial Army against my orders, you are defying lawful authority. Since you are doing so in furtherance of an attempt to change the lawful succession to the throne, you are a traitor and will be treated accordingly.
Your only hope is to cease your treason immediately, surrender and plead for mercy. I am known to be merciful, I would probably spare your life if you do not delay. Of course, if I find that my nephew, the emperor has, as I suspect, been harmed or held prisoner, I shall show no mercy to anyone involved.
As for coming back to Zekran, I shall do that. Have no doubt. But I will not walk into whatever trap is waiting for me. I shall come with an army. Woe unto any who dare stand in my way.

Oron 1, Salgan 1, Adonsik 41 Vylor Cledman VI
Lord Chancellor Rubanya,
You never asked me to come to Yishil, unarmed or otherwise. I take this and the rest of your letter as evidence that you are slipping into senility. That you would call me, of all people, a traitor, is simply beyond belief.
I have thus far rebuffed all attempts by Levorek to assert authority. I have done nothing but protect the Emperor. Is this the reward you offer a loyal soldier? I have heard that similar treatment was handed out by your minions to Ekanor Falan Tylifon. I knew Tylifon and he was a good soldier. His reward for this was to be called a traitor and beheaded at the hands of one of your minions.
You seem to have forgotten that I am the commander of the Imperial Army. That is a position that was earned through years of discipline and hard fighting on battlefields in the overseas provinces. It was not handed to me as a political appointment the way you hand out Ulor appointments to your friends and family. It was earned. That which was earned with such difficulty cannot be taken away so lightly. You call yourself Imperial Army commander, yet you were never in your life a soldier. And what have you done with this command? Your first act is to order the soldiers of our Imperial Army to slaughter each other. Apparently simply to remove from office Ulor Tremalkan who you yourself appointed only a few months ago.
You are not in your right mind. You say you are Imperial Regent. You claim this only because you say so. The sayso of a madman is not sufficient to rule this empire. The emperor is alive and the Stavuk Vyloresh has chosen a regent. As much as I wish it were done by the full council in a more regular meeting, there has only ever been one vote held by a quorum of the Stavuk Vyloresh on appointing a regent and that vote appointed Levorek.
As I try to do my duty amidst dueling politicians claiming to be regent, you offer me only false accusations of treason and my own death as reward for obeying your orders. I am a man, not a sheep. Orders or not, I will not march to my own slaughter, nor see you destroy the Imperial Army and the Empire itself as you are currently doing. You leave me no choice at all. I wish you had. Instead you insist on preparing for war and making me your enemy.
Have you forgotten that underneath all the legalities, the decrees, the titles and arguments, that control of the Empire depends upon the army? I and I alone command the loyalty and respect of the army. Out of all the Stavuk Vyloresh members, all the princes, all the grabbing hands in the Imperial court in Zekran, there is not a single real soldier except for me.
I would have served you. I told Levorek that. But you have gone insane. If you had ever seen combat in your life, you would understand that it is not arrogance when I say that you don't want to meet me on a battlefield. You will be lucky if a single imperial soldier stands by your side against me when the battle starts. None will be left alive to save you by the time the battle is ended.
It is clear that you want to have me killed. For this, I have no choice but to fight you. Very well. Your fate will not be a headsman's axe. I will kill you with my own sword.
This is my last letter to you. I will grant no quarter. I will accept no surrender. Your words cannot be unsaid. This war that you have brought upon us will now begin.
