Davro gives him basic instructions what he wants drawn. He wants at least ten miles north to be sketched out. Even without any words, simple drawings of forest, hill, and river will help him immensely with his strategizing. He also begins to make sure that the horses are getting enough food, water, and rest to gain strength for use in battle.

(OOC: You told him to map 10 miles. A "mile" is an English unit of measure from Earth that neither your character nor anyone you know of has heard about. The approximate equivalent in the system of measurement used by the Zekresh is 40 talong. We shall assume your character requested mapping of 40 talong north of the fortress instead of 10 miles.)
The soldier says his name is Gelbanmuk. He takes a horse, a roll of deer hide to use for the map and a partly burned stick to draw with and heads north.
Kast Ulmuk Baaniferan Province Zekresh Empire 42nd day, 2nd month, 41 Cledman VI (Oron 42, Salgan 2, Adonsik 41 Cledman VI)
The next morning, a handful of soldiers and civilians arrive by boat from Serat Shasa. They say that the Imperial Army fortress has already been overrun by the Tronds four days ago and that the Tronds sacked the city of Serat Shasa and then burned it to the ground. They say the Tronds also killed all the wounded after the battle.
One of the soldiers from Serat Shasa is out of his head with fear and keeps shouting, "RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN! They're like a stampeding horde of beasts I tell you! RUN! By the Gods, run while you still can! Our fortress didn't last a day against them and neither will yours!"
Morale sinks a bit among the Kast Ulmuk garrison after that.

Davro rides out personally to survey the area around 40 Talong north of here. He's specifically looking for where the river is, where there's any forested area, and if there's any significant hills. Anything that could help him in an infantry battle if he can't get any useful cavalry yet.
