"It's good to have you with us, we still have a long way to go" Nemt tells An Op, relieved Talimuk allowed his transfer.

Later in the day, a noblewoman and an entourage of servants passes the column heading north. Nemt recognizes her as Princess Evanit.
An Op points out an Imperial Army officer riding with her and says, "That's Ekanor Falan Dulimuk. He's the guy they got to take over command of my garrison in Kajakan Folon."
An Op says, "...speaking of which, we should reach the border with Kajakan Folon tomorrow. Also the Kajak River and the City of Verronia. They're all in the same place."

"That's good to know," Nemt says to An Op, "we'll regroup and wait for the rest of the force, and hopefully get some ships in the port."
(OOC: How common is it for people in the Empire to have two word names like An Op?)

(OOC: For some nationalities two or even three names are normal. For Zekresh, Verronese and others, one name suffices. An Op is Vummese. His name is a normal Vummese name.)

Kakajan Yost Province Zekresh Empire
Oron 17, Salgan 2, Adonsik 41 Vylor Cledman VI
A messenger arrives who does not ask for Nemt by name, but seeks the commander of the troops Nemt is with and conveys his request that such commander come to the Ulor's palace in Verronia to meet with the Ulor of Kajakan Yost province.
(OOC: You said something about trying to get ships. Who is going to deal with that and how?)

Nemt goes alone with the messenger to the meeting, leaving An Op in command in his absence.
(OOC: I was assuming Nemt would ask Kortelan for any assistance he or his administrators could offer for transportation, and while Nemt obviously didn't know Kortelan is specifically waiting to speak with him when he made those comments, it would be reasonable for him to assume a meeting with local officials in Verronia would take place - given similar meetings happening several other times when camped near a city.)

Kakajan Yost Province Zekresh Empire Oron 20, Salgan 2, Adonsik 41 Vylor Cledman VI Ekanor Falan An Op has been at work attempting to commandeer ships in the port of Verronia. He has commandeered only four ships. Several others put to sea shortly after he showed the ship's masters the orders from Gurikan Falan Talimuk. An Op also went to the naval base with the letter from Talimuk requesting assistance. They have not been willing to answer until today and they have now provided just two ships. In all there are now six ships available. They are capable of carrying about 300 soldiers total -- less than one kantora. Also, the warship Kortelan promised has not arrived. Fortunately some of the food has because it is becoming virtually impossible to keep the troops fed here. There is no more food available for them in the market or the local area. Foraging parties are now going a considerable distance inland and across the river to Kajakan Folon province. Kakajan Yost Province Zekresh Empire Oron 21, Salgan 2, Adonsik 41 Vylor Cledman VI A messenger arrives and asks that Nemt come to the Ulor's palace in Verronia to meet with Ulor Kortelan again. (Post in the Verronia thread for the meeting.) Action continues here: www.naegame.proboards83.com/index.cgi?board=northpeninsula&action=display&thread=55&page=15

After returning from his meeting with Kortelan, Nemt informs the officers in the expedition the local government has agreed to help with the acquisition of ships, but not to expect any miracles and to prepare for a long walk. He also asks for anyone willing to visit Kortelan's father's farm to ask him to help ease food shortages, assuming no one has yet been there.

The commander of the 1st Kantora Grogia also volunteers. So does Ekanor Falan An Op.

Nemt sends all three men, figuring a larger force with several officers may better impress the size and need of the army.

Shortly after An Op's group sets off on their mission, a civilian named Izdanuk shows up saying he's an official of the provincial government sent by Ulor Kortelan.
When Izdanuk is brought into the presence of Ekanor Falan Nemt, Nemt does recognize him as someone he saw at the Ulor's palace who seemed to be a high ranking person there.
Izdanuk tells Nemt that he has been instructed by Kortelan to relay information about the current situation to Nemt.
Izdanuk says, "We have a disastrous situation in the harbor and in the city. In the harbor, soldiers from your army are commandeering every ship they can get. As a consequence, ship masters are avoiding the port of Verronia as if it were infested with a plague. Commerce and trade have come to a standstill. The ships that have been commandeered by your men aren't even being used by the army. They are being forced to sit in port and await orders. Meanwhile their crews have mostly abandoned the ships to seek paying work."
"The navy is mysteriously unhelpful. They have a considerable number of ships at their docks, but claim they are mostly unseaworthy or committed to other missions. I convinced them to provide two ships to help transport your men."
"We have an even worse problem in the markets. There is no food for sale in the market. None. Most merchants are unwilling to bring food into the city for fear it will be confiscated without pay by the army. What little food comes into the market is quickly bought up by townspeople at high prices. We are about to have a famine right here in the city of Verronia."
"That is the situation. Do you have any return message for me to take with me back to Kortelan?"
