After the speech, the civilians dispersed.
Lorgan's men and Ersolan's men began the task of rebuilding, but most of the damage was not the kind that they could fix. The buildings of the town were mostly intact. The Ulor's Palace had suffered the most damage and that was primarily the destruction of its gates and doors. The soldiers improvised replacement barriers, but only skilled craftsmen could replace what was destroyed.
Inside the palace, there was a mess from soldiers looting and smashing things. Lorgan's men had already cleared away the debris, but to put the palace back the way it was would require replacing what was taken, which Lorgan's men and Ersolan's men either couldn't do, or didn't admit that they could do (if they had participated in the looting). Replacing doors, smashed furniture and smashed plates could only be done by skilled craftsmen.
In the buildings in town, the situation was much the same. The soldiers helped clear away debris and put furniture back in place for the few civilians who were present and willing to accept help. But the main damage was the theft of items of value, especially food and money. A few doors were smashed in. The soldiers could not undo any of that.

"Lorgan, Ersolan. I want you to assemble the men. We have to do something about this looting. I am thinking it will take a lot of punishment for this crime."

Kortelan walks to the men. "Well men I am here to hear you start admitting to looting or telling me who has been looting. Now I know you don't want to tell me that much is clear but because of how much you have hurt the people of Angenmar Paven I am holding looting from here on out punishable by death. And if it is found out that you knew about looting and did not come forward you will be held just as responsible as the people who did the looting themselves. Now there is one way to get out of the death penalty for looting. And that is to return everything you looted to its owner and then place yourself at the mercy of the person or persons you looted from. I will give you one hour to start admitting to looting or giving me information before I, Ersolan and Lorgan start going through your things and finding every piece of loot and killing you on the spot for it. Am I understood?"

After that speech is given, Ersolan quietly says to Kortelan, "I hope you don't consider it looting when I sent men to forage for food supplies so our troops wouldn't go hungry." At this point, quite a few men are already coming forward, waiting to talk to Kortelan. Before Kortelan can say anything, though, a horseman comes riding up from the south and shouts in a loud voice, "Is Ulor Kortelan here?" A hundred or more soldiers point out Kortelan and the horseman rides up to him. Kortelan now notices that the man carries a sack emblazed with the Imperial Kervus symbol indicating that he is an Imperial courier. The courier hands Kortelan a message bearing Rubanya's seal and then departs. The message reads as follows: Oron 8 Salgan 1 Adonsik 41 Cledman VI
Ulor Kortelan,
I thank you for your efforts to regain control of Kajakan Folon and I urge you to continue that task as Ulor of Kajakan Folon. I realize this will be a difficult task and I have no choice but to make it more difficult by taking away from your command the Imperial garrison troops from both Kajakan Tros and Kajakan Folon. Let there be no mistake, you are hereby commanded to turn over control of these units and all the men in them to Ekanor Falan Korinyva:
1st Kantora Kajakan Tros 2nd Kantora Kajakan Tros 3rd Kantora Kajakan Tros
1st Kantora Kajakan Folon 2nd Kantora Kajakan Folon 3rd Kantora Kajakan Folon 4th Kantora Kajakan Folon
You are not to permit any of the men who are or were in these units to transfer to any other unit and especially not to your personal guards or any provincial force. If they have already done so, they are hereby immediately drafted back into the Imperial Army and assigned to Ekanor Falan Korinyva's command.
I do not want to hear that any of these men have become unavailable to join Korinyva's force for any reason. I regret the necessity of leaving your provinces essentially undefended, but these troops must proceed at once along with Korinyva's force to Yishil to join the rest of the main army. I expect soon that we will engage Krulmuk in a major battle which will decide the fate of the Empire and the world. We need every man we can get and we need them now. I understand that you have also recruited some irregular cavalry forces. I will leave those and the North Bearland Guards and the Bears of the West under your command to help you maintain order in your provinces, but if you can spare any of these troops for the defense of Yishil, it might make the difference between victory and defeat.
Rubanya Cledman Imperial Regent Crown Prince Lord Chancellor

Kortelan looks at Ersolan "No that will not be considered looting but you will repay anyone you took food from." He reads over the note and frowns. "Wait here and I will have a reply in a second." then he turns to the men coming up "Wait a moment let me write a reply to this."
Reply to Rubanya:
I am sorry but I can not follow your orders. First off I do not have control of any of the Kantoro of Kajakan Folon they are currently being besieged by my men while one of their own is riding to you. Also the Bears of the West are all dead they died in the fighting. That being said I have heard rumors that Krumluk is not going to Yishil but rather to here to collect the Kantoro here. What I propose is that the main force go back to Yishil while my forces stay here and train. If Krumluk comes here we can hold him off to allow you to group and head here to hit his flanks or back while he is hung up in a long siege. If he goes to Yishil like you say then we can do a forced march down to you and then attack his flank or pretend to join him and allow you to make a surprise attack on his forces while they are sleeping. I think both of those plans make more sense then just sitting in Yishil waiting for him to come to you while he marches with impunity throughout the rest of the empire. Then he would be able to do what he wants while we have to deal with logistics and moral.
Ulor Kortelan.

He hands the note to the horseman and then turns to the men waiting to talk to him. "I am ready to hear your stories now."

The soldiers begin to explain themselves. All the stories say that they either took food when ordered to do so by officers or that they looted the Ulor's palace after the battle or that they looted some things in town after they saw Korinyva's men pillaging the place. During the process of hearing these stories, another horseman rides in from the north. He is also carrying an imperial courier pouch and hands Kortelan a message. The message is from Krulmuk dated Oron 6, Salgan 1, Adonsik 41. It's here: www.naegame.proboards83.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=capital&thread=1176333260&page=1(OOC: I had said the first horseman was from the north. That was a mistake, he came from the south and I've modified the post to say so. This one came from the north.)

Korinyva called his officers together in a council of war at his tent. A map was spread out on the table. Ekanor Falan Dulimuk, the commander of the Tanan garrison was there also, but Princess Evanit was not there. The map was this map: Korinyva said, "Men, I have just received a letter from the Imperial Regent clarifying that I am to take command of all forces in this province. That specifically includes the Tanan troops and the Kajakan Tros troops. I hope Kortelan won't try some sort of mutiny, but I want everyone to be ready just in case. I want the Nassavix troops, the Tanan troops and the Slythians redeployed to protect my headquarters and all the others prepared to assist us if needed. Also, I want you to have your officers find opportunities to speak to the Kajakan Tros troops and inform then that this letter exists and that you've seen it so you know it's true. Everyone pass it around. If you can't read, I'll read it to you when the meeting is over. I want you to leave no doubt in their minds that Kortelan has no legal authority over them so that if he plans to defy this order, he'll have to do it alone. The letter says that a message was sent to Kortelan by the Imperial Regent, informing him of this and the courier has just informed me that it was delivered."

Princess Evanit came to Korinyva's tent wondering when the attack was going to take place and as to what was going on.
"Korinyva, when are we going to attack. We have been sitting here for several orono now and I want to know why haven't we pressed on?!" She said as she came into the tent and quickly observed a map on the table. "Ummmm what is that a map of?" She quickly said with curiosity.

"After we deal with this, we're going to need to make ladders. We have neither the time nor enough supplies to undertake a siege. We may have to assault the fortress directly. I'm hoping that if we do it at dawn, that we may catch them by surprise."

"Ah, Princess Evanit. Your timing is excellent. I have just determined that we may have to launch a direct attack after all."
Dulimuk interrupted, "We'll lose a lot of men. We might lose the whole battle."
Korinyva said, "Nonetheless, my latest orders from the Imperial Regent are that we must hurry. There is simply no time for a siege. Either we take the fortress by storm or we will have to leave enemy troops to the rear and march for Kajakan Yost. That would potentially put us between two hostile forces. Three if Krulmuk marches for Verronia. We would be at greater risk doing that than trying to get over those walls in one surprise attack."

Your highness, this is a map of the military situation on the North Peninsula. I have put an orange dot for every kantora of our soldiers. The dots are in the approximate location of the troops. Each purple dot represents a kantora of enemy soldiers. The green dots are kantoro we are not sure whose side they're on.

"Okay I see things are being handled. I will now take my leave." She said with a bow as she left the tent.
